Friends of the National World War II Memorial to host Pearl Harbor ceremony

The 79th anniversary of Pearl Harbor will be marked by the Friends of the National World War II Memorial and the National Park Service during a special event held on Monday both virtually and at the National World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C.

The commemoration begins at 12:53 p.m. and will feature Pearl Harbor survivor Rev. Richard Young; Friends Chairman Josiah Bunting III; and Friends Vice Chairman Jane Droppa, according to a release.

Also scheduled to participate in the event are Navy Chaplain Cdr. Thomas P. O’Flanagan and National Park Living History volunteers Patrick McCourt and Sidney Wade.
The Military District of Washington’s Armed Forces Color Guard and the U.S.Navy Ceremonial Band Brass Quintet, Bugler and Bell Ringer will also take part in the commemoration.

At 12:53 p.m., a pre-recorded ceremony will be streamed via the Friends Facebook page. Droppa will deliver opening remarks.

At 1:15 p.m., wreaths will be placed at the National World War II Memorial’s Freedom Wall in remembrance of Pearl Harbor and to honor the 16 million Americans who served during World War II. This portion of the event is closed to the public and will be streamed live via the Friends Facebook page.
