A new Department of Veterans Affairs outpatient clinic will be opening in Copperas Cove, Texas, and is expected to start taking patients by late 2029.
Located around five miles from Fort Hood, which was renamed to Fort Cavazos in May 2023, the new clinic will bring healthcare access closer to home for approximately 200,000 veterans in the region, including many who previously served at the Army post.
The announcement of the new clinic was made by U.S Rep. John Carter, Secretary of Veterans Affairs Doug Collins and Sen. John Cornyn.
“This clinic brings care closer to home for the veterans who served our nation,” said Carter. “It reduces drive time, expands access to critical services, and strengthens support for the military and retiree community in Central Texas.”
According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, there are currently 1,193 outpatient sites of care, including Veterans Health Administration outpatient clinics, serving the more than 9.1 million veterans enrolled in the VA healthcare program.
“The brave men and women who defended our nation in uniform deserve the highest quality health care,” said Cornyn. “The new VA Outpatient Clinic in Copperas Cove will ensure veterans in Central Texas have access to the medical care they need. I was proud to support the creation of this clinic alongside my colleague, Congressman John Carter, and I look forward to seeing how it serves our veterans for years to come.”
The establishment of the clinic is projected to create more than 500 jobs and reflects ongoing efforts to support one of the largest veteran populations in the country. Collins highlighted that this initiative underscores a commitment to improving care for veterans.
“VA has opened more than two dozen new health care facilities during the second Trump Administration, and this proposed clinic underscores President Trump’s steadfast commitment to bringing more care to Veterans closer to home,” said Collins.
