Reserve Officer Training Corps seniors around the country are now eligible to participate in Navy Federal Credit Union’s ROTC scholarship program

The All-American ROTC Scholarship Program was launched in 2018 to honor the best and brightest ROTC seniors, said Matt Lawson, NFCU vice president of branch operations.

“It gives us the opportunity to really recognize those ROTC cadets and midshipmen who are really just outstanding examples in the areas of leadership, military excellence, scholarship and service,” he said.

The program was only available at 10 schools nationally when it launched three years ago, Lawson said.

“This year will be the first year it’s open to nominations from every ROTC detachment,” he continued.

That means about 500 schools with around 10,000 ROTC seniors will be eligible to make nominations.

“We’ll pick out 12 finalists from that group which really exemplify what we’re looking for in ROTC leaders,” Lawson said.

Lawson has judged the competition since it began.

“As you can imagine, it gets harder and harder every year,” he said.

Each of the 12 finalists will receive a $2,500 scholarship and their ROTC detachment will be awarded $1,500. The top three finalists will receive a $6,500 scholarship and their units will receive $5,000. The top three will also be honored at this year’s Military Bowl in Annapolis, Maryland.

Application deadline is April 16. Nominees can apply here.
