A new court filing from Justice Department lawyers in Arizona, reads that the insurrectionists who stormed the Capitol on January 6, aimed to “capture and assassinate elected officials.”

According to reporting by CNN, the memos were released in an effort by prosecutors to keep Jacob Anthony Chansley, the infamous, self-proclaimed “QAnon Shamon,” in custody.

Chansley was the shirtless man photographed inside the Capitol during the riots, dressed in a horned hat, with his face painted, carrying a spear.

"Strong evidence, including Chansley's own words and actions at the Capitol, supports that the intent of the Capitol rioters was to capture and assassinate elected officials in the United States government," government prosecutors wrote.

Chansley's attorney, Albert Watkins of Kodner Watkins Law Firm of St. Louis, compares his client to cult followers of Jim Jones and the mass murder-suicide of his followers in 1978.

"They were all about love and peace and they listened to the words of their leader and you know what ended up happening? They drank the Kool-Aid and died. The only thing missing from the Capitol – from the President who said, 'I'm going to walk down Pennsylvania Avenue with you.' The only thing missing was the big bin of Kool-Aid being stirred," Watkins says.

Chansley is due to appear in federal court in Arizona Friday for a detention hearing.

"He loved Trump, every word. He listened to him. He felt like he was answering the call of our president," Chansley's attorney Al Watkins, told CNN Thursday night. " My client wasn't violent. He didn't cross over any police lines. He didn't assault anyone." Watkins said

Chansley’s attorney told CNN he’s hoping Trump will give his client a pardon.
