Sedona's Parks and Recreation Department in Arizona is taking applications for its annual inscriptions at the Sedona Military Service Park to highlight local veterans.

Veterans, or families of veterans who wish to honor their service, and have resided in Sedona or Village of Oak Creek, who would like to have their name inscribed on the granite walls must apply by April 30.

Dedicated on March 1, 2024, the Sedona Military Service Park features granite walls, benches and flags representing all five branches of the U.S. military, which are visible from State Route 89A and occupy the front section of the Jack Jamesen Park.

Inscriptions will be engraved onto the walls of the Jack Jamesen Memorial Park prior to Memorial Day. Proof of military service and Sedona residency will be required with one’s application.

According to Friends of Jack Jamesen Memorial Sculpture Park, the park was built after a local builder and developer, Dave Blauert, donated a piece of land to the city.

Blauert was mourning the loss of his friend, Jack Jamesen, who had been a founder of Sedona 30, which is a nonprofit organization established in 1982 to improve the Sedona community and so he named the park after him.

The Sedona Marine Corp League and Sedona Korean American Association sought support from local clubs and organizations, including The Sedona 30 and made this section of the park possible, according to Friends of Jack Jamesen Memorial Sculpture Park.

The Sedona Military Service Park is located within the boundaries of Jack Jamesen Memorial Park at 25 Northview Rd.

Applications for inscription can be obtained by emailing SedonaRec@SedonaAZ.gov or by calling (928) 282-7098.
