A national nonprofit is asking the public to help send deployed service members and veterans in Department of Veterans Affairs hospitals their most requested item: socks.
Soldiers’ Angels has set an ambitious goal of collecting 75,000 pairs of socks during its 8th annual Warm Feet for Warriors campaign.
“Over the past seven years, our Angel volunteers and corporate partners have donated more than 300,000 pairs of socks to care for our troops – past and present,” said Soldiers’ Angels President and CEO Amy Palmer. “Our warriors serving around the world request socks more than anything else in their care packages, and as an Air Force veteran myself, I know just how nice it feels to slip on a brand-new pair.”
From now through March 31, the Warm Feet for Warriors sock drive features a key difference from previous iterations as donations will now be shipped directly from those collecting socks to deployed service members, a deployed chaplain, VA hospitals, or military/Guard/Reserve installations.
Service members wear socks out often due to the toll their physical lifestyles demand. And while they have regulations on socks worn in uniform, service members often ask for socks for their time outside of uniform. Socks of all colors and sizes are accepted, as long as they are unused and in their original packaging.
