A Kansas veteran has been accused of lying so he could get money from the Department of Veterans Affairs Beneficiary Travel Program.
In a release, U.S. Attorney Stephen McAllister said Edward Parks, 60, of Liberal, Kan., faces a single count of submitting false claims for travel reimbursement to the VA and one count of making a false statement to investigators from the Department of Veterans Affairs – Office of Inspector General.
“The crimes are alleged to have occurred in 2019 in Sedgwick County, Kan.,” the release states.
If convicted, Parks could face up to five years in federal prison and a fine up to $250,000 on each count he is charged with.
The Department of Veterans Affairs – Office of Inspector General investigated. Assistant U.S. Attorney Debra Barnett is prosecuting.
