Make way for MEEK, the “Fabulous” singer from London who has been making a mark since the beginning of the year with her hit, thanks to her “absolute confidence,” determination, and an unshakeable song. She recently joined us inside Hard Rock Hotel New York for a talk with Mike Adam about “Fabulous,” her sudden influx of fame, and her upcoming tour dates with Kesha.

MEEK admits she initially wrote 300 songs before whittling it down to about 15 for her upcoming album, trusting her own taste and making music for herself first. “Every single one is a huge single, like ‘Fabulous,’” MEEK admits. “I make music for me, primarily. I think if you've got the ability to make a tune you're gonna make something you wanna listen to, right? So if I keep listening to something I've done over and over again and I'm singing along to it and I love it, I think other people will, and I think that's the thing you have to follow always as an artist is trust what you love and then, your people will love it too.”

MEEK has been in the songwriting business for a bit, penning tracks for everyone from Dua Lipa to David Guetta, but the spotlight of “Fabulous” has brought a few new folks into frame from her past. “We've got a group chat called ‘the sin bin,’ which is when anybody reaches out that suddenly decides I exist again, what a coincidence,” she smiles. “They get a screenshot and they go straight in ‘the sin bin,’ and then me and my mum, two of my best girl mates and a couple of gays, we just sit in there and cackle over it, basically, so beware.”

There’s no quit in MEEK, who has used her drive and confidence to find her success. “In everything you do in life, that if you have a backup plan, you're setting yourself up to fail, you're already accepting what might happen if it maybe doesn't work, but I genuinely think, if you refuse to allow the thought that it might not work to even come into your head, it absolutely will happen.”
