After two weekends of collabs and cameos at Coachella, one of our favorites remains Billy Corgan of The Smashing Pumpkins joining forces with sombr on stage. KROQ caught up with the “back to friends” singer backstage, as he shared how the generational moment of Rock came to be.

“I've been a fan of Billy and The Smashing Pumpkins since I was a kid,” the singer reveals. “I reached out to Billy because I was a huge fan and I wanted him to do something with him and he was cool about it. He was instantly down, and it was just so perfect and we really aligned and I'm so grateful. Nicest dude ever. It's insane.”
The moment was not without its difficulties as a non-functioning mic threaten to derail the performance, but the pair handled it like pros. “It's rock and roll. It's a part of live music. Something like that's always going to happen,” sombr says. “I tried to give Billy my mic, but I don't know. I think he did the right thing. He's like, ‘Nah, we're waiting for my mic.’ So he was actually supposed to be singing when I was singing at the start, so I just sang it and then he came in on the chorus and I thought it made it more special.”
“Something I've noticed is that the audience likes it when there's a mistake, it makes it more interesting for them. But hopefully that never happens again when I have a special guest because that looks really bad and I feel awful. But Billy was super nice about it.”
