Finding healing crystals that speak to you is a very special experience. But there's a historic crystal mine not too far from Sacramento where you can mine your very own crystals, making for quite the unique experience!

There's a crystal mine near Verdi, Nevada, which is about two hours away from Sacramento towards Reno. Hidden within the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest you'll find the mine off of Long Valley Road before reaching the Lookout Campground. (Look for the brown sign that says "crystal mine.")

At the mine, you'll see piles of rocks. In those piles, that's where you'll find the crystals.

The National Forest Service says this area was used to mine crystals for two-way radios in World War II. Dynamite was used to blast the hills to expose the crystals for mining.

Even after all these years, it's reportedly still possible to find whole crystals. You'll need to bring your own digging tools, and you're allowed to collect up to 5lbs of crystals per week.

Get there by punching this address into your GPS: 561 Crystal Park Road, Verdi, NV, 89439. Get more info here.
