This garden estate looks like a dream. But it's as real as can be.
If you're in love with gardening, nature, and historical places to visit, then you should take the drive to the Filoli Estate south of San Francisco.
Built between 1915 and 1917, the estate takes you back in time with its Georgian Revival-style manor house and 16 acres of hedges, terraces, pools, fountains, flower beds, and rose garden (via Planet Ware). I haven't been here yet, but I'm already feeling so inspired by its English Revival-style landscaping.
If gardens aren't completely your thing, there's plenty more to explore. The estate also has a 10 acre orchard filled with over 500 fruit trees, along with a 528 acre nature preserve of redwoods, oak groves, a pond, reservoir, creeks, and more with 22 docent-led hiking paths and the Nature Preserve's one-mile loop Estate Trail self-guided hike.
If it looks and sounds familiar, you've probably seen the Filoli Estate featured in Dynasty, Heaven Can Wait, and George of the Jungle.
The Filoli Estate is about two hours away from Sacramento. Read more about it here.
