A gas station manager in Rancho Cordova was fired after misplacing the decimal point for premium gas.

According to ABC7 (via ABC 10), hundreds of drivers got gas for just 69 cents per gallon, amounting to a mistake that cost the gas station $16,000.

John Szczecina, the manager of the Shell gas station, was fired over the mistake. He told ABC7 that he's worried he'll be sued by the station owners.

Business attorney Craig Simmermon told CBS Sacramento that, in a situation like this, employees are protected from liability where they make mistakes performing normal job duties.

"The only way he would be responsible outside of a written agreement is if he was acting outside the scope of his employment," Simmermon said of Szczecina. "For instance, if his boss said 'whatever you do, don't ever set the price on that gas pump,' and then he did."

Szczecina told CBS Sacramento that he's taken responsibility for it and is hoping he won't be looking for work for too long.
