An 18-year-old man died in a crash along Highway 50 near Howe Avenue after the vehicle went up in flames.
According to CHP (via Fox 40), a black Jeep Grand Cherokee was stopped on the highway east of Howe Avenue at around 7:45 a.m. Saturday with the unidentified 18-year-old Sacramento man still inside. Officers say a 35-year-old man driving a Ford F-150 changed lanes; he tried to stop his truck when he saw the Jeep ahead of him, but ran into the back of the Jeep which spun and caught fire.
CHP officials say the diver of the Ford tried to open the driver's side door of the Jeep but it wouldn't open. A good Samaritan tried to help the Ford driver get the teen out through the window, but they couldn't get him out.
The teen died as the Jeep became engulfed in flames. His identity was not released.
