This NorCal candy shop will transport you right into a 'Shrek' movie

If the thought of living in the middle of a Shrek movie sounds exciting to you, then you definitely want to check out this candy shop in Northern California.

This British-style candy shop has absolutely nothing to do with the Shrek movies, HOWEVER, I immediately thought of those movies when I came across it.

Cottage of Sweets is located in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California, about a three hour drive south of Sacramento. Since it's on the coast right by Monterey, you can easily make a day trip or weekend getaway out of it. Many of the buildings in the area look very similar, too! Very quaint and adorably British.

Licorice fans will absolutely love their global selection of licorice sourced from Australia, Finland, Germany, Holland, Italy, and the U.S. And if fudge is more your thing, Cottage of Sweets' house-made fudge, caramels, truffles, creams, and clusters are perfect for you.

Cottage of Sweets has a unique history in Carmel-by-the-Sea. According to their website, the building itself was originally built in 1922 on Dolores Street and was later transplanted to its current location on Ocean Avenue using logs to roll the building there. They believe the moving year was in 1923. Over the years, the cottage has been home to a weaving shop, dress shop, and even a "ticket window" for the Golden Bough Theatre.

Cottage of Sweets came to be in 1959 and has had several different owners throughout the years.

I realize that there are many different styles of buildings in the Shrek movies. In the second half of the clip below, you'll see a village similar to Cottage of Sweets.
