Jahmil French, best known for portraying Dave Turner on "Degrassi: The Next Generation," has died. He was 29.
Producer Joshua Safran, who worked with French on the Netflix series “Soundtrack,” confirmed his passing on Twitter, reported People.
"I can confirm my good friend, co-worker, and all around inspiration, Jahmil French, passed away yesterday," Safran wrote. "Only posting because I see the story getting out there. I will have more to say about him later. Right now we're all just processing this devastating news."
Actress Annie Clark, who played Fiona Coyne on "Degrassi," paid tribute to her late co-star in a touching Instagram post.
"Heartbroken over the loss of our friend Jahmil French," she captioned a series of photos alongside French and other co-stars of the series. "We started on Degrassi the same year and I'll never forget the day I met him. Jahmil was so full of energy and absolute joy to be around."
She added: "Jahmil was so full of energy and absolute joy to be around. The video on the last slide is how I always think of him. He was such a special person and I’m so grateful for the memories we made. I still can’t believe it. Gone way too soon. He will be so missed by us all."
Chloe Rose, who played Katie Matlin on the long-running series, tweeted how French was an "integral" part of the show.
"Still in shock," Rose wrote. "Jahmil will be missed. He was an integral part of the Degrassi family and certainly a huge part of my degrassi days. He always wanted to make people laugh and smile, a true joy to be around. Rest in Peace."
French appeared on the Canadian series from 2009 - 2013. In 2019, he starred alongside Jenna Dewan, Madeleine Stowe and Christina Milian on the Netflix musical drama "Soundtrack."
Further details on French's passing, including an official cause of death, have yet to be revealed.
