The San Francisco 49ers have officially added Josh Rosen, the one-time No. 10 overall pick, to the club's quarterback stables, plucking the 23-year-old of the Tampa Bay Bucs' practice squad. Rosen steps in as San Francisco's backup to C.J. Beathard. The signing, made official on Wednesday morning, had been first reported on Tuesday afternoon.
Rosen, who the Cardinals grabbed in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft, has also spent time with the Dolphins and Buccaneers.
Beathard is slated to start against Arizona on Saturday as Nick Mullens is now out with an elbow injury that may require season-ending surgery and Jimmy Garoppolo is still dealing with a high-ankle sprain. The team opened Garoppolo's IR practice window on Tuesday while also sending practice squad QB Josh Johnson to the Reserve/COVID-19 List.
