PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Steelers defensive captain Cam Heyward is one of eight finalists for the 2020 Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award.
The award is presented each year to an NFL player who best demonstrates the qualities of on-field sportsmanship, including fair play, respect for the game and opponents, and integrity in competition.
It’s the second time as a finalist for Heyward as he is joined by Ravens defensive end Calais Campbell, former Raven and current Niners fullback Kyle Juszczyk, Indy defensive end Justin Houston, Pats receiver Matthew Slater, Carolina QB Teddy Bridgewater, Tampa Bay linebacker Lavonte David and Eagles center Jason Kelce.
Heyward voted in by a panel that includes Hall of Famer, Allderdice and Pitt star, Curtis Martin along with Warrick Dunn, Karl Mecklenburg and Leonard Wheeler.
“You try to think about the man who is representing the organization, their teammates and also what they are doing on the football field – the impact they are having,” said Dunn in a statement. “You want guys who display leadership, who go above and beyond, who think about their teammates before they think about themselves. It is always hard to narrow down the list of individuals for this award.”
