PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Given the success of a couple of QB Josh Dobbs run plays Sunday at Cleveland, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin admitted he’s looking at the possibility of dressing Dobbs for the post-season.
“We are going to have that discussion as an offensive staff,” Tomlin said Tuesday. “We meet a little bit this afternoon.”
Dobbs got a uniform for the first time this year and ran for 20 yards on two carries and completed 4 of 5 shovel passes for two yards as part of his nine snaps of action.
Rudolph threw for a career-high 315 yards with a pair of touchdowns and an interception.
“It was good to get both guys in the stadium,” Tomlin said. “Those guys helped their cause. Neither guy hurt their cause. We talk openly about what Josh brings that are a little bit different that maybe levels the playing field and creates things to work on and think about. That is an asset to him.”
Tomlin noted after the game on Sunday that a little known fact is that Dobbs rushed for 831 yards with 13 touchdowns in his final year at Tennessee. The 6’3”, 210 pound QB rushed for 2,160 yards in his college career, at 4.9 yards a rush. Remember in college, sacks count against a quarterbacks rushing stats.
“We will ponder those possibilities and make appropriate decisions that best benefit us,” Tomlin said.
“Maybe it’s one or the other in regards to them. Maybe its both guys. All things are on the table as we work to put ourselves in a position to win this football game.”
