PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Duquesne was rolling early against Davidson, then it crashed hard in a 61-48 loss at the Kerr Fitness Center at LaRoche University.
The 2-3 Dukes were leading by as many as a dozen in the first half. Then went on a scoring draught of 11 minutes 37 seconds between field goals and made one field goal over 17 minutes and 36 seconds of the game.
“The reality is we are not a very good team right now,” head coach Keith Dambrot said of the worst shooting performance during his time at Duquesne. “That’s the facts. We just died on the vine, really.”
Duquesne’s defense kept them in the game much of the rest of the way until 6-4 Davidson starting pulling away in the final couple of minutes.
“We played two games in 300 days and just played three games in four days,” Dambrot said. “The bigger issues is do we have the fight to fix it. I know I do. You know how young people are in this environment. We have to want to fix our issues. If we don’t we will have a long year, if we do we can be one of the better teams.”
Bob McKillop won his 600th game at Davidson. The veteran head coach is fifth on the active wins list at one school. McKillop started as the Wildcats head coach when Ronald Reagan was President.
