Third Round of the Georgia High School Association football state playoffs. Several Metro area teams will be playing and looking to punch their ticket into the state title games.
Six schools in the Gwinnett County area will be playing on Friday, with five schools actually hosting semifinal games. Gwinnett County Public schools’ Norcross and Collins Hill will both be hosting games on Friday night as well as Buford, Greater Atlanta Christian School and the Wesleyan School.
GCPS’s Grayson is also playing Friday but will be the visiting team that Norcross faces in one half of the GHSA 7A semifinals. Norcross remains unbeaten at 13-0 and are coming off a 17-7 win over Colquitt County, who was the No. 9 team in the nation heading into the game last week. On the other half of the 7A bracket, Collins Hill will host Lowndes. Buford will be hosting Valdosta in the 6A semifinals, while GACS will host Oconee County in the 3A semifinals and Wesleyan will host Prince Avenue in the 1A Private semifinals. Other Metro area teams vying for a spot in the state championship games include, Westlake in 6A, who will be traveling to Leesburg to take on Lee County, Cartersville in 5A will host Coffee, and Marist in 4A will travel to face Bainbridge. In total, nine teams from the Atlanta metro will be looking to get into GHSA state championship games and we know that at least one will as Norcross and Grayson, the No. 4 team in the country, go head to head on Friday.
