Chris Sale’s status for the rest of 2022 was already in question when he got diagnosed with a fractured finger after he got smoked by a comebacker in his second start of the season, but now it’s clear. Sale’s season is done — not because of the finger injury, though.
The Red Sox announced Tuesday Sale underwent wrist surgery. He suffered a right distal radius fracture in a bicycle accident on Saturday.
Sale’s surgery was deemed successful. The Red Sox expect him to be ready for Spring Training.
With his 5 2/3 big-league innings this season, Sale has logged 48 1/3 innings in 11 starts over the past three years.
