Giants sign Matt Chapman to huge six-year deal

The Giants are extending one of their marquee players. According to ESPN's Jeff Passan, the team will keep third baseman Matt Chapman around for the long haul with a massive price tag.

The Giants confirmed the signing Friday morning, with Passan reporting that it's a six-year, $151 million deal that wipes out the final two years of his deal and prevents him from opting out. That's a $25.17 million-per-year figure.

The 31-year-old corner infielder has been an elite defensive player, and has produced 22 home runs and 69 RBIs for the Giants this season. He is hitting .247, his highest mark (if it holds) in four seasons. He has never come close to batting north of .278 since he hit that career high in his second season.

It's a move that gives the Giants stability, reliability and power at a crucial spot in the infield moving forward.
