Warriors wing Jonathan Kuminga and Sacramento Kings coach Mike Brown are part of an NBA contingent in Africa this week taking part in the latest “Basketball Without Borders” tour.

Kuminga, Brown and others like Cleveland Cavaliers guard Darius Garland and Philadelphia 76ers assistant coach Dave Joerger are in Johannesburg, South Africa holding a camp for 80 elite African youngsters and trying to spread the game.

The 20-year-old Kuminga hails from the Democratic Republic of Congo and told reporters at his exit interview he had planned on visiting Africa, and hopefully his hometown of Goma. Kuminga shared video of his team after winning a tournament on social media along with some photos of the trip.

Brown has served as the Nigeria national team’s head coach since 2020. The New Times Rwanda shared reaction from Brown in South Africa.

The game of basketball brings a lot of joy, not just to me, but to everybody throughout the world,” Brown said. “It’s a common language for everybody.”

Kuminga has often spoken about his desire to influence the next generation of African NBA players and there’s no better way than to mentor them yourself.
