SAN FRANCISCO — The Warriors have been at odds with the NBA’s referees this season, but they might have been the benefactors of a massive non-call in Monday night’s 116-113 win over the Sacramento Kings.
On the game’s final possession, with the Kings trailing by 3 points and with 1.3 seconds left, guard Kevin Huerter tried to launch a buzzer-beating trifecta to tie the game. Though there appeared to be contact between Warriors guard Klay Thompson and Huerter on his follow through, the Kings didn’t get the call.
They pleaded with referee Pat Fraher to change his call, but there was no review as the game ended and Mike Brown shook hands with Steve Kerr. Crisis averted for the Dubs, but the Kings were crying foul after the game. Players like Huerter and De’Aaron Fox took to Twitter to voice their displeasure.
Brown was also frank when discussing the no-call after the game.
"It's tough being a Sacramento King, I think, because Kevin got fouled," Brown said. "I know there are missed calls throughout the game – missed calls on us, missed calls on our opponent. I just want, at the end of the game, somebody to step up and make the right call.”
You could make a strong argument that the Kings deserved to win Monday night’s game, but ultimately they lost an 11-point, fourth-quarter lead after Steph Curry went ballistic for 47 points to save the Warriors.
With the loss, the Kings fell to 3-6 on the season and missed out on a chance to extend the Warriors’ losing skid to six straight.
