After going viral for an in-game moment of frustration, Cavaliers forward Kevin Love apologized to the public on Wednesday morning.
In a press conference, Love spoke at length about the incident, apologizing to the city for a moment that he said 'showed a lack of judgement.'
"That wasn’t me. It truly wasn’t me," he added. "I truly believe that all the good that I do should outweigh the bad, but we’ve been conditioned as human beings to, you know, when you’re exposed to threat, that’s what you see. I feel like differences make for better headlines than what we have in common, and our greatest American pastime, especially now in the age of social media, is tearing people down. And I’m not saying that what was said about me or about our team or anything is unjust, I believe that we have to be better, and especially me as a leader has to be better.
"But I know that I’m a good human being, I know in some cases that I’m misunderstood, and that’s fine. I love Cleveland, I can rock with Cleveland until the day I die. I believe that I’ll come back here whether anyone’s opinion of me has soured, because I haven’t been available or my play this year hasn’t quite been there because I’m off balance and I’m not able to get into the shape I want to be in to get back, fine. And those can all sound like excuses, but this is just me leaving it all out there, being truthful, and just being Kevin. At the end of the day, that’s all I can be.”
Love has reportedly already apologized to his teammates and the organization, and the issue is expected to be handled internally. According to reports, the Cavs are already looking to turn the page on the incident.
