49ers Injuries: Pair of receivers join the list

There is a bit of cause for concern on the 49ers' injury front, but Wednesday was a decidedly positive day. The vibe at practice was as loose as it's been all season.

Kyle Juszczyk booted at least a 55-yard punt from his own 35 down to inside the 10-yard line and make sure everyone took note of it. The receiving group is clearly feeding off Ricky Pearsall's energy.

Pearsall, by the way, talked to a group of reporters informally on Wednesday. None of his quotes or comments will be posted here. But his energy was infectious, even if, as Kyle Shanahan said, he was gassed after that first practice. He was reflective, enthused and downright funny. His excitement at returning to practice was abundantly clear.

"I think everyone's excited for him to be out [there]," Shanahan said. "We just had a walk through today. But Monday was our first day back with him, and we let him break the team down. He was excited. We didn't do much. We just had one two-minute drill. He was out of breath from it, so we were messing with him trying to get him to talk right away. It's more just because he was so excited to be out there and stuff. Good first day, and pumped to see him out there this afternoon."

Pearsall may not return this week — the plan has not been dictated to Pearsall, and Shanahan said Monday that he expected Pearsall would need more than this week to be ready — but he's been going at full speed during practices when almost no one else is.

Maybe that calculation or timeframe picks up if the 49ers have concerns about Deebo Samuel and/or Jauan Jennings. The former practiced in a blue, non-contact jersey with a left hand injury, and Jennings missed practice with a hip injury.

The full injury report is below:

No practice
K Matthew Wright (shoulder + back)
K Jake Moody (ankle)
WR Jauan Jennings (hip)
DT Maliek Collins (knee)
DE Leonard Floyd (vet day)

Limited
DT Jordan Elliott (knee)
WR Deebo Samuel (wrist)
RB Jordan Mason (shoulder)
S Malik Mustapha (ankle)

Kyle Shanahan didn't give much indication on the severity of any of these injuries, so it's hard to raise the alarm bell until players start missing practice for multiple days.

The Chiefs, meanwhile, are coming off a full bye week. Only defensive end Mike Danna failed to practice Wednesday afternoon with a pectoral injury. Everyone else practiced in full.
