49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is in the NFL concussion protocol Kyle Shanahan told reporters this afternoon. He will not practice today.
Purdy began showing symptoms on the flight back from Minneapolis on Monday night. If Purdy can't clear the leagues protocol, Sam Darnold would start on Sunday against the Bengals.
Purdy took a hit to the head on this fourth quarter quarterback sneak attempt.
He remained in the game but was 2-for-6 with two interceptions after the play.
Interesting note from ESPN's Adam Schefter who writes, "no NFL player placed into the concussion protocol this season has played the same week."
Given the information above, it appears unlikely the league would clear Purdy for a Sunday game following a concussion on a Monday night when the symptoms didn't pop up until hours after in the early part of Tuesday morning.
