Brian Baldinger explains how Brock Purdy is 'very much like Mahomes'

The 49ers need to get their monkey off their backs by beating the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. San Francisco has not beaten their now nemesis Chiefs since 2014.

The man who has held the 49ers from winning two Super Bowls will stand on the other side of the field Sunday afternoon. Brock Purdy will get a second crack at beating him.

When it comes down to it, Brian Baldinger thinks Purdy has quite a bit of Mahomes in his game. He noted it specifically against Seattle.

"I thought he was very, very much like Mahomes,' Baldinger said. "They both are very talented at extending plays, creating plays, creating offense, or just simply being able to buy time to throw the ball. And so I think they both have that instinct. They both - if you probably put them in a 40-yard dash, they'd probably run about the same. They're probably both about 4.8, but they play faster than what that says, just because their angles, their ability to just hesitate, start, stop, change direction, like he's extremely talented."

A "big part" of the 49ers winning in Seattle was Purdy's playmaking, Baldinger said.

"I thought throughout the game, his ability, whether it's just to lose somebody inside a phone booth, get outside the pocket, double back, and do the things that Mahomes does," Baldingers aid. "If I put them side by side and you took the names off the back of the jersey. They're pretty close to each other like that."
