The Dallas Cowboys’ season came to an end in chaotic fashion on Sunday night in a 23-17 loss to the San Francisco 49ers, but the chaos did not stop at the final whistle.

As the game ended and players, coaches and officials made their way off the field, some fans at AT&T Stadium began throwing objects onto the field.

In a video that was sent to NFL Network reporter Jane Slater you can see trash being thrown in the direction of the officiating crew as they jogged off the field.

DeMarcus Lawrence, who was behind the officials, is even seen using his helmet to deflect what appeared to be a filled water bottle thrown in his direction.

Lawrence was clear after the game, though, that he was not the target of the fans.

“That s—t was aimed at the refs, not me,” he said.

The game ended after Dak Prescott ran a QB sneak from the 41-yard line all the way to the San Francisco 21, but as the teams rushed to line up for the Cowboys to spike the ball to stop the clock, the official bumped into Prescott before setting the ball and the quarterback was unable to spike it in time.

It was the second time in the game the official got in the way of Prescott being able to hike the ball and this one cost them a shot at the end zone to tie the game.

Of course, calling a run up the middle of the field with no timeouts remaining was also an aggressive and risky play-call that led to the situation.

Yet, as upset as fans were at the ending of the game, throwing stuff onto the field usually crosses a line.

It was all just part of a chaotic day in Dallas that started what will sure to be a long offseason for the Cowboys.
