Kenny Mayne hosted his final SportsCenter on Monday night and after 27 years, he made sure to go out with a bang.
Among Mayne’s guests included Aaron Rodgers, whose reported rift with the Green Bay Packers is one of the biggest stories in sports. And while Mayne got Rodgers, whom he has a good relationship with, to shed some light on the situation, the best part of the interview came at the end, from Mayne.
“Last time we did an interview together you told me to go heavy in the cryptocurrency game,” Mayne said. “I did. We’re down 40 percent. I just lost my job. Gretchen just wants a new comforter. F—k you, Aaron Rodgers.”
Mayne then walked off the set to a laughing Rodgers.
“I love you, Ken” the quarterback said.
While Mayne’s epic mic-drop moment of cursing off Rodgers was the highlight, there was some noteworthy context the Packers quarterback was able to provide on where things stand with him and the team.
“With my situation, look, it’s never been about the draft pick, picking Jordan [Love],” he said. “It’s just kind of about a philosophy and maybe forgetting that it is about the people that make the thing go. It’s about character, it’s about culture, it’s about doing things the right way.”
That was about all Rodgers would divulge on the situation, which was the first he’s spoke about it publicly since initial reports that he was disgruntled surfaced on draft day.
