NBC Sports and Audacy NFL Insider Peter King still believes the 2023 49ers can reach great heights despite losing three consecutive games heading into their by week.

King told Willard and Dibs on Tuesday he's, "still bullish on the 49ers. I don't know how it's going to happen, but I believe the 49ers will be in the NFC Championship Game."

King also gave his thoughts on the acquisition of former number two overall pick Chase Young from the Commanders for a 2024 third round compensatory pick.

"The 49ers made a move to reinforce the defense today, getting Chase Young. That's fine, but I believe Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch have to be shocked they had to go out and do that. The defense has been good, but it hasn't been overwhelming."

The 49ers are hoping they can get healthy and rested during the bye week and hoping Chase Young can help revitalize a pass rush that has been underwhelming to begin this season. Young will join former college teammate Nick Bosa on a 49ers defensive line that can also boast Javon Hargrave and Arik Armstead.

San Francisco at 5-3 finds themselves in second place in the NFC West behind Seattle and suddenly sixth in the NFC overall trailing the likes of the Eagles, Lions, Seahawks and Cowboys.
