Trey Lance has touched down in Dallas and we got our first glimpse of him in Cowboys gear on Tuesday.

The 23-year-old has passed his physical and officially joined his new organization after two tumultuous years in The Bay. The historic rivalry between the 49ers and Cowboys has been revived with two postseason meetings the past two years, but Lance said he was happy to find out he was going to play for Jerry Jones’ organization.

"I really tried to not expect anything one way or another, but I can say that when I heard it was the Cowboys, I had a big smile on my face," Lance said via Cowboys.com. "I'm very excited to be here. … I believe that everything happens for a reason. I believe I'm here for a reason and, regardless of what it is, I'm here to try and find a way to help this team."

While there has been speculation about some possible tension with Dak Prescott, Lance said the Cowboys franchise QB has given him a warm welcome. Prescott and Lance both have two years left on their existing deals, but the Cowboys also hold a fifth-year option for Lance in 2025.

“He welcomed me with open arms ... It meant a lot to me," Lance said. “This business is crazy but, for me, I'm not looking forward — at all. I'm just trying to take it one day at a time. This guy has played at a very high level for a long time so, obviously, just tons of respect for him, as I think he deserves and gets from across the league. I'm just trying to learn everything I possibly can from him."

For now, Lance figures to be in something of a QB2 competition with Cooper Rush, as they have made the Cowboys’ 53-man roster behind Prescott.

While Lance is just about to start his third NFL season, he’s familiar with navigating through potentially awkward QB rooms, like he did with Jimmy Garoppolo the past two seasons in San Francisco.
