Zach Wilson finally tossed his first career touchdown pass late in the third quarter of Sunday’s Jets-Panthers game, but it came with a bittersweet coda: left tackle Mekhi Becton was helped off the field and carted off with a right knee injury.
First the good: Wilson scrambled on a busted play, and connected with a wide open Corey Davis for a 22-yard TD pass, the first of his career:
Wilson also converted the two-point conversion on a keeper, cutting the Jets’ deficit at the time to 16-8.
However, on that play, as Wilson scrambled, Becton was blocking and guard Greg Van Roten was pushed down by Panthers defensive tackle Daviyon Nixon, who then fell right into the back of Becton’s knees:
Becton was helped off the field by trainers and then carted off to the locker room.
