When it comes to rebuilding the Patriots, Nick "Fitzy" Stevens was thinking outside the box on the Dale & Keefe Show Monday ... and it seems to make some sense.
"Friends, I have a trade for you," Fitzy said. "If they get Jimmy Garoppolo I think this makes all the sense in the world given how much money they need, what type of weaponry they need and who they might also have to deal this season. I say you take cornerback Stephon Gilmore and you trade him to the Cleveland Browns for Odell Beckham Jr., straight up."
So, to summarize ...
Patriots get: Wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.
Browns get: Stephon Gilmore.
While Gilmore is headed into the final year of his contract, the 28-year-old Beckham Jr. is signed through the 2023 campaign.
The wide receiver is owed $14.5 million in 2021 and just under $14 million in the final two years of his deal. He is, of course, coming off a 2020 season which included just seven games due to a torn ACL. Before the injury, Beckham Jr. made 23 catches for 319 yards and three touchdowns.
Gilmore, who was shut down in the final month of the season with a quad injury, will be making $7 million in 2021.
So, who says no?
