Jack Eichel listed on Sabres' training camp roster

The Sabres captain will be there for team physicals on Wednesday

Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR 550) – The Buffalo Sabres released their training camp roster and schedule on Tuesday.

Jack Eichel is on the roster and will be in Buffalo on Wednesday to take his physical. We will not have the opportunity to speak with Eichel, as there is no media availability on that day.

Also on the roster is unsigned restricted free agent Rasmus Dahlin. He is the only Sabres player still looking for a contract.

After it was announced that Aaron Dell would be wearing No. 30, which was last worn in 2014 by Ryan Miller, there was a severe uproar by the fans, so he has switched his number to 80.

Buffalo has 34 forwards on the roster for training camp. Prospect Lukas Rousek had knee surgery and won’t play this year. Meanwhile, prospect Brandon Biro missed the Sabres Prospects Challenge with an injury, while 2021 seventh round pick Tyson Kozak was hurt in Game 1 and didn’t play in Game 2 of the tournament.

Buffalo has 17 defensemen in camp, including Mattias Samuelsson. He took a shot in the leg in Friday’s game against the New Jersey Devils and missed Game 2 with a lower-body injury.

Arttu Ruotsalainen played on the wing last year in both Rochester and Buffalo. He was switched back to his natural position of center in the Prospects Challenge and is listed only as a center. If he stays there, I would rank him third on the depth chart behind Dylan Cozens and Casey Mittelstadt, and ahead of both Vinnie Hinostroza and Cody Eakin.

Sabres' 2020 first round pick Jack Quinn is listed on the roster as a center/right winger.

Practices start on Thursday with two sessions - one at 10 a.m. ET and one at 1 p.m. ET. The same thing happens on Friday, and then the team gets Saturday off before a Blue and Gold scrimmage on Sunday. None of the sessions at the arena are open to the public, but any session at Harborcenter is open to the public.

General manager Kevyn Adams will be speaking Thursday morning at 8:30 a.m. ET, while head coach Don Granato will go at 9:15 a.m. ET. You can hear both press conferences during the "Howard and Jeremy Show" on WGR Sports Radio 550.
