HOUSTON (SportsRadio 610)- Carlos Correa can become a free agent after the 2021 season, but Astros general manager James Click says the all star shortstop has expressed a desire to remain in Houston for the long term.
“It’s something that Carlos has expressed to me personally," Click said Monday. "It is a conversation that we are having. I don’t want to get to far into it. We’re obviously very open to it.”
Correa initially said he'd like to remain with the Astros in a radio interview last week, but it is significant that he has expressed those desires with Click, who knows how important he is to the franchise.
"Everything he brings on the field as a player and a leader as a shortstop, that's something that has been a real key part of the success of this franchise for a long time. Hopefully we can have some productive conversations."
Correa batted .264 with five home runs and 25 RBI, but hit six homers during the Astros 13 game playoff run, including a walk-off in game five of the American League Championship Series. Correa are headed to arbitration after the sides failed to agree on a salary for 2021.
