Southside Christian claimed back to back State Titles with a shutout win. The Sabre defense dominated in route to a 28-0 victory over Bamberg-Ehrhardt. The Sabres have now won 22 straight, with their last loss coming in the 2A playoffs to Saluda in 2019. Southside Christian's defense was suffocating holding B-E to 1 of 9 on 3rd down. Even more than that, they held them to 114 total yards and just 47 in the 1st half. Southside Christian QB Jacorey Martin had two 1st half interceptions but shook that off after the break. Martin finished with 272 passing yards, he also ran for 77 yards and 2 TD's. Coach Mike Sonneborn now has reached rarified air leading his program to two straight State Titles. The SCHSL is set to realign for the 2022 season, we will see if that moves Southside Christian going forward. If they remain in Class 1A, they will be the favorite to win it again next season. A 3-peat could be in the cards regardless of class for the Sabres.

In 5A, Gaffney shocked many around the state knocking off powerhouse Dutch Fork. The Indians got a 22-19 win, they not only took the 5A crown they broke Dutch Fork's 62 game win streak. Gaffney QB Grayson Loftis had two TD passes and linebacker Landon Bullock had two interceptions on the day. The win is made that much sweeter for a football town like Gaffney, with one of their own Head Coach Dan Jones leading the program to the promise land. The Indians win their 1st State Title since 2012 and their 18th in program history.
