The Furman men’s basketball team tips off the Southern Conference portion of its schedule Wednesday hosting the Samford Bulldogs at 7 p.m. from Timmons Arena. The Paladins (8-5, 0-0 SoCon) closed out non-conference play on December 21 with a 75-61 victory over Presbyterian at Timmons Arena.
Mike Bothwell scored a game high 21 points to lead Furman and concluded the game shooting 7-of-9 from the field, 2-of-3 behind the 3-point line and 5-of-6 at the charity stripe while adding six rebounds, two assists and one steal. Jalen Slawson recorded 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting and contributed eight rebounds, five assists, two steals and two blocks. Joe Anderson came off the bench to score a career-high 12 points highlighted by three 3-pointers and registered four rebounds, four assists and two steals.
The Paladins finished the game shooting a season best 59.6 percent from the field and 55.6 percent behind the 3-point line. Furman led 23-22 in bench points.

Alex Hunter leads the Paladins offensively this season averaging a team high 17.6 points per game while Bothwell contributes 14.9. Slawson adds 16.2 points and a team leading 8.3 rebounds per game.

Samford currently sits at 10-2 overall and is coming off a 75-73 victory at Ole Miss on December 21. The Bulldogs have four players averaging in double figures led by Ques Glover with 19.3 points per game. He is joined by Jermaine Marshall (12.4), Jaden Campbell (10.7) and Logan Dye (10.5). Defensively, Marshall leads the team with 9.3 rebounds per game. Samford is under the direction of second-year head coach Bucky McMillan.

Furman is facing the Bulldogs for the 31st time in program history and leads the all-time series 21-9. The Paladins have won each of the past four meetings in the series including a 78-64 victory last season in Greenville.
