An expensive weekend…. again

The record store always seems to have my number.

A nice haul!
This weekend the record gods were on my side

Last weekend I told myself, "Crockett, you are staying home, and NOT going to the record store. You need to take a break from buying records. You have been spending too much money on them." Yes, I have to scold myself, or I will be out of control.

And ya know what? Last weekend, I did just that! I didn't spend any money, I stayed home, and life was good. Well, I should have repeated the process, because this weekend was bad. Really bad. I was down in Wilkes Barre buying a birthday present, and I noticed I was right by Gallery of Sound, so I once again told myself, "Well, you are right here. We can just stop in and check out what they have." And that's exactly what I did. I also, went in before buying the birthday gift for someone else. So selfish.

Before I walked in the door, I then told myself, "Ok, $10 maximum spending limit. Make it count." As you can guess, that didn't work out.... at all. For whatever reason the record gods were on my side Saturday morning. The amount of records I have been wanting just so happened to be there! I couldn't believe it. Immediately my mind ignored the limit and went on a spending frenzy! It all happened so quick. Before I knew it, my hands were filled with records.

Once I came out of my shopping trance, I took a breath and said, "Ok we have to put some back. Let's be responsible." So I put a few back, checked out and went on with my day. But as the day went on, I kept thinking about the records I put back. And you guessed it, I ended up going back and buying the rest. Real responsible right?

But it doesn't end there! Yesterday, I was invited to a party, and I figured I will bring a tray of pretzels. So off to Philly Pretzel Factory in Dickson City I went. I picked up my tray no problem, and headed home. HOWEVER; on the way home, I pass the other Gallery of Sound. I tell myself, "You're never up this way. Just stop in quick and take a quick look." And as if a ghost took over my body, the car found itself in the parking lot.

Before I walked in the door I once again told myself, "Ok, this time, we are only going in to look. That's it. lets not repeat yesterday." I walk in the store, head to the back for the record section, and I'm greeted by Hank Williams Jr records. Four of them. Four good ones. I immediately say, "Well I need those." So I pick up the four records and head to the counter. I knew I needed to get out of there before another repeat happened.

Once at the counter, the man working the register says, "If I can be a salesman for a second, if you spend another $2, you will have a $10 credit next time you come in. "Say no more!" the voice in my head said, as I turned around, back into the abyss of music to find another purchase. To my surprise, I couldn't find a record I wanted badly enough to push me over the $2 limit. But did that stop me? Not a chance! Off to the cds I went! I did eventually find a $6 Cd I wanted, and I paid the man and I got out of there.

Needless to say, this weekend wasn't a cheap one, but my collection just got that much better! Maybe this weekend I need to be a little more strict with myself.
