When dogs really are man’s best friends, it only makes sense that you’d protect yours – even from a massive and aggressive bear.
On the eve of Thanksgiving, Kaleb Bentham of Nevada County, California, says he heard his 90-pound rescue Pit Bull “Buddy” growling from outside of his house. He ran to check on him.
According to Newsweek, Bentham came upon a sight no one wants to see -- his dog was being dragged by the head by a 350-pound Black bear.
"Honestly, the only thing I could think of was 'save my baby,'" Bentham said.
So, Bentham ran to Buddy’s side to rescue him. "I just ran down there, plowed into the bear, tackled it and grabbed it by the throat and started hitting it in the face and the eye until it let go," he said.
Fortunately, the bear released Buddy, and Bentham was able to rush him Mother Lode Veterinary Hospital in Green Valley.
Buddy underwent surgery, where he got stitches and staples to his head, above his eyes and around his mouth.
A man’s love for man’s best friend is a powerful force. Kaleb Benham from Grass Valley took on a 350 pound bear that was attacking his rescue dog, “Buddy.” Kaleb said he heard a growl the saw the bear dragging buddy “by his head.” So he tackled the bear and punched it pic.twitter.com/XAhTrS2AEC

Buddy is expected to make a full recovery. But according to Bentham, the bear has returned several times to his home.
