Feburary is Black History month! Check out all the events honoring and celebrating African American culture in the PNW!

8th Annual BSU Legacy Soiree:

  • Sat Feb 1, 6–9 pm
  • UW's Black Student Union will embrace the "New Harlem Renaissance" at this Black History Month celebration promising live music, performances, honoraria, keynote speakers, a catered dinner, and more.

Black Voices: A Community Opportunity:

  • Feb 3–7
  • Various locations (around Shoreline) North of Seattle. Free. Check out talks—including a talk with Tanisha Brandon-Felder and Jesse Hagopian titled "Teaching Black Lives" (Mon Feb 3 at Shorewood High School)—a Black Books Fair (Feb 4-5 at Ridgecrest Elementary School), and other special events.

Soul of Seattle:

  • Fri Feb 7, 6 pm
  • Northwest African American Museum Atlantic. This event will showcase the tasty talents of 10 Seattle-area chefs of color.

Black art celebration:

  • February 21, 2020
  • Celebrate Black History Month at Through the Eyes of Art, which offers comedy, spoken word, visual art, and access to galleries in the Museum of Pop Culture.

Explore African History Through Art:

  • Fri Feb 21, 4:30 pm
  • Renton Highlands Library South of Seattle. Free. Docent Trenise Williams will give a talk on African art and lead a West African-style mask-making workshop.

  • Sun Feb 23, 4–6 pm
  • Phinney Neighborhood Association Phinney. A keynote speech from YMCA Seattle Corporate Relations Officer Alicia Crank, plus performances from the Northside Step Team and complimentary refreshments.
