
HOT 103.7 is celebrating Black History Month and we want you to join in as we reflect on the importance of black history in America. Here are events that you can participate in all month long to learn more and celebrate Black History Month.
Black History Month at Northwest African American Museum — Feb. 8th-22nd
The Northwest African American Museum will hold a host of events throughout the month. The events include, on Feb. 8th, The Oprah Effect: A Conversation With Black Women Media Trailblazers, which marks the day Oprah Winfrey became the first Black woman to host a nationally syndicated talk show; it will include a panel discussion from 6 to 7:30 p.m. with Paris Jackson, host of “Crosscut Now,” and Falesha Johnson, co-host of the podcast “Rebirth of Life and Love.” On Feb. 15th, 2-4 p.m., there will be a tassel ear candy workshop with Ife Thomas of Her Glow Candy Shop. On Feb. 16th, 2-4 p.m., there will be a candle pouring experience with Noir Lux, a Seattle candle bar. On Feb. 20, there will be a discussion with author Loretta J. Ross about her new book, “Calling In: How to Start Making Change With Those You’d Rather Cancel,” from 6 to 7 p.m. On Feb. 22nd, there will be a Black Art Takeover with pop-up markets, displays from local Black artists, and guided tours that are available from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Also on Feb. 22nd, 3-5 p.m., mixed media artist AshaAung Helmstetter will lead Black Abstract: Black Influence on Western Modern Abstract Art, in which participants will create abstract paintings while learning about Black influence in abstract art. 2025 Call to Conscience Black History Month Museum — Feb. 1st-28th
Featuring exhibits and installations by the Seattle Black Panther Party, the Black Heritage Society of Washington, Rainier Cinema Black Movie Posters, Seattle Griot Project and more, Rainier Avenue Radio’s exhibition will run all month long at Columbia City Theater, which has been converted into a museum. The event will be about celebrating Black Washingtonians of the past and present as a guided tour through time.

Black History Month Open Art at People’s Community Center
Celebrate Black History Month with free events and activities all month long at People's Community Center in Tacoma. There will be Black History Activities for Youth every day from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. as well as Black History Trivia (answer a trivia question to get free entry to the gym or weight room).
Explore Tacoma’s Black History – A Scavenger Hunt
Join all the Tacoma Library branches, including Fern Hill, Kobetich, Main, Moore, Mottet, South Tacoma, Swasey, and Wheelock from February 1st through 28th for a scavenger hunt to celebrate and learn more about Black artists who helped shape the world!
