During a recent conversation with Audacy's Mike Street, Coco Jones talked about acting vs. singing, being recognized among the current Female R&B elite, and more.

For Coco Jones, “Music was always number one.” That’s what she “grew up doing,” and “what I saw myself doing for the rest of my life,” she tells Street. But having the competitive nature she does, also having grown up playing basketball, she asked her mom, “What else can I do, this isn’t happening fast enough?” -- And that’s when acting came in.
Starting with auditioning for a broccoli commercial, “Acting became another thing that I love to do, but it was always signing first,” she says. Despite acting taking the forefront for the last few years, Coco never lost the dream of her first love, noting, “Acting is a character… singing is all about you, and music to me feels a lot more comfortable. Acting… feels a lot more challenging. Sometimes I wanna be comfortable and do the thing I feel I was born to do.”
Discussing the peers she was nominated with for this year's Soul Train Awards, Coco revealed what feels like to be recognized among a list of who’s who, including SZA, Summer Walker, Victoria Monét, Beyoncé, H.E.R., Ari Lennox, and Janelle Monáe.
“I don’t really know how to describe that,” Coco admits, "because it's kinda surreal to think that all of this time you’re hoping to get to this place. You’re believing for it and you’re working for it with no evidence of when that’s gonna come to fruition. And then one day, one song, one project later, I’m here.”
