If you’re haggling with your insurance company over Ida repairs, be aware that they’re not allowed to drop you as a customer.
That’s because Louisiana Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon has suspended all cancellations and non-renewals in the aftermath of the devastating hurricane that impacted much of south Louisiana.
Donelon told WWL Radio’s Newell Normand that the regulation falls under Emergency Rule 47, part of Gov. John Bel Edwards’s emergency order.
Donelon is also urging insurance companies to waive their requirement that a mandatory evacuation be in effect for them to cover short-term living expenses.
He also told WWL Radio that he will be extending Rule 47 for another 30 days as the area continues to struggle with extensive infrastructure repairs.
