Newfound freedom quickly turned to trouble for Bill Cosby.
Not a week out of jail, the actor has already been embroiled in a new controversy, this one involving his old “Cosby Show” cohort, Phylicia Rashad, reports Huffington Post.
Cosby was released from prison last Wednesday after the Pennsylvania Supreme Court overturned his 2018 conviction for aggravated indecent assault.
After Rashad tweeted support for Cosby on the day of his release, a huge social media backlash crested over Rashad’s tweet.
That led to Howard University — where Rashad was appointed dean of the fine arts program in May — to quickly release their own statement saying that Rashad should have been more understanding and that her tweet “lacked sensitivity towards survivors of sexual assault.”
Cosby has now released his own retort to Howard University.
In a press statement, Cosby said, “Howard University you must support ones Freedom of Speech (Ms. Rashad), which is taught or suppose to be taught everyday at that renowned law school, which resides on your campus.”
The comedian went on to release a statement implying a connection to the U.S. Capitol insurrection.
"This mainstream media are the Insurrectionists, who stormed the Capitol," Cosby said in a statement issued through reps on Sunday, per CNN. "Those same Media Insurrectionists are trying to demolish the Constitution of these United State [sic] of America on this Independence Day."
He continued in all caps: "NO TECHNICALITY -- IT'S A VIOLATION OF ONES RIGHTS & WE THE PEOPLE STAND IN SUPPORT OF MS. PHYLICIA RASHAD."
