Colleges around the country are getting serious about following the recommendations of health officials, who’ve encouraged people not to travel for spring break in order to limit the transmission of coronavirus.
The University of California, Davis, is offering to pay students to stay put during spring break to discourage people from traveling to party areas and potentially contracting the virus.
In partnership with the city of Davis, UC Davis students could recieve $75 Spring Break Grant if they agree not to travel during the time period.
Spring break is March 22 - 25.
"We're trying to give the students a positive experience during this period of time by offering these incentives," UC Davis' spokesperson Melissa Blouin said, according to ABC 7.
In order students and in order to receive the grant, they must submit a proposal and application to be considered.

"One of them is called a Get Active grant, another one is Get Artsy. A home improvement grant, and then a Let's Stay In grant, and each of those is linked to a different business within the Davis community where students who receive the grant can pick up a gift card at the store location," Blouin explained.
Students have until Wednesday, March 10 at 5 p.m. to apply for the money, which can be used at select businesses within the city of Davis to promote "staycations."
