
Austin has many cool, and unusual things to do with a strong eco-friendly vibe. Here are Summer Eco-Fun things to do with family, friends and even by yourself. One tip to always remember is to leave things better than when you arrived. Do 1Thing Together!
1. Barton Springs
Set of natural water springs in Zilker Park. Plus Home to endangered salamander, a full-moon celebration and a large spring-fed swimming pool.
Barkin' Springs for the furbabies is nearby!
3. Congress Bridge Bats
Austin is home to one of the largest urban bat colonies of 1.5 million Mexican free-tailed bats in North America. From March-November, they enjoy giving a show for all to see along the Congress Bridge.
3. Mayfield Park
Free public park and gardens with peacocks and peahens.
4. Mueller Sunflowers
Austin’s largest public art installation that has a trail that you can walk among the towering stems with solar petals collecting the sun's energy. Art created to help with energy conservation.“SunFlowers - An Electric Garden,”
5. UT's Skyspace: The Color Inside
View altering observatory seats up to 27 people in a dome-like structure that's interesting, mediative and trippy. Sunrise and sunsets are best for viewing, but there are very few sunrise viewings. Reservations recommended.
6. Snake Island
Also called “Hobo Island,” that Austin Parks and Recreation Department doesn’t acknowledge it as a site of interest. Use a non-powered watercrafts such as a kayak or canoe to get there. EpicsUp Rowing Dock No swimming in the lake. Are there snakes? That's part of the adventure and discovery!
Rainey Street Trailhead
A new park space expected to open this July! Thanks to The Trail Conservancy. It's at the end of Rainey Street between Cummings Street and East Avenue. The park will have seating, a children's play area, native plants and a floating dock!
