Update 5/22/24:
Athena's owlets have left the nest have and they are hanging out in nearby trees! Follow the Wildflower Center on Instagram for the latest updates. Athena's cam is down for now with plans to return next year!

Athena's baby (2nd) owlet has left the nest just like their sibling! She has been nearby watching over them from the trees and bringing them food until they can do it themselves! It appears she's gathering the owlets in one tree to watch and care for them easier! A mothers job is never done! ________________________________________________

The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center's Great Horned Owl population has grown! Athena had her owlets! They arrived (hatched) on April 4 & 6! When Athena allows it, you can see them on Athena Cam! Perfect time to plan a visit to the Wildflower Center to see the babies with the Wildflowers! _______________________________________________
The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center has been the home to a nesting pair of Great Horned Owls for over a decade. During a visit, you may get the pleasure of seeing Athena, as she nests above the entrance to the Courtyard in a planter in the north corner. Athena has a way of making guests enthralled with what she's up too. Athena is as much of a Superstar to the Wildflower Center as the flowers themselves.

"It will be exciting to see how quickly the owlets develop,” said Charles Eldermire, Project Leader for Cornell Lab’s Bird Cams. “Watching them transform from sleepy, wobbly nestlings to active, bright-eyed youngsters in only a few weeks really underscores the tremendous pace of the owls' breeding season."

Athena is adored and beloved by the Austin community. So with great care and consideration, the Wildflower Center partnered with the Cornell Lab of Ornitholog. Their livestreams are watched around the world allowing viewers to enjoy and learn about birds without impacting their nesting habits. This Spring, Athena will extend her fan base.
