Actress Reginae Carter turned 22 recently and celebrated with a 90’s/2000’s themed birthday bash.
The daughter of Lil Wayne held the party at the Republic Lounge in Atlanta and numerous posts on social media from the event show a large gathering with many attendees not wearing masks or social distancing.
Fans took to the comments to share their frustrations with their decision to hold a large party in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. “Coronavirus was the theme I’m assuming,” one user wrote. “Y’all just forgot about ‘rona?” Another added.
Despite a mask mandate as well as orders on gatherings in Atlanta, a spokesperson for Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms told CNN, “State Orders -- which supersede decisions made at the local level -- currently allow bars and venues to remain open."
The party featured performances from Lil Wayne as well as Juvenile and 2 Chainz. Video from the event shows a packed crowd without a mask in sight.
Singer-songwriter Kandi Burruss was in attendance alongside her husband Todd Tucker and shared several posts from the party on Instagram.
“One more time for the birthday girl @colormenae! I hope this next year of life brings you happiness, great accomplishments, love, & everything else you want! #NaeDay” she captioned a post.
Immediately, her comments were filled with backlash over the lack of masks and social distancing. “Nice during a deadly pandemic like wtf is wrong with y’all like seriously,” one user wrote.
“Damn a party was that deep huh during a rapidly spreading deadly virus wow very irresponsible ppl,” another added.
