The future is uncertain for one of Fort Worth’s landmark restaurants after the Star Café closed its doors this week.
According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, a server was shown in a social media video saying it was the restaurant’s last day. Another staffer also posted on social media that the Star closed.
Chef Victor Villarreal posted a video on Facebook showing the neon “open” sign going dark.
The business originally opened in the ‘30s as Edna’s Star Café and operated under a number of names, including Star Café, before being remodeled and opening as one of the original Black-eyed Pea Restaurants in 1979.
Betty and Don Boles bought the restaurant in 1980, restored the name Star Café, and operated it before selling in 2022. Bar owner Drew Boatman bought the Star in 2024. He did not return any messages from the Star-Telegram.
